The Plan is OVER!

So, I fell of the blogging planet for awhile there. I kept going and completed The Plan. Turns out I'm reactive to very few foods, but knowing what I am reactive to will be very helpful in the future. For example, I know now that I cannot consume more than one slice of bread in a day without it showing up on the scale the next morning.
I've decided to go back to simply tracking my nutrition and exercise on sparkpeople.com. I will take some big ideas from TP to use for the rest of my life. I've greatly benefited from limiting my sodium, increasing my veggies and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), and basing my water intake on my body weight (body weight in pounds divided by 2 equals daily water in oz).
I've lost 18lbs since I decided to take control and I am going to continue my new, healthier life. I've enter the Max Muscle MaxForm Challenge and hope to be at my goal weight by July 1st, 2013 (my 26th bday).

DAILY RECAP

My friend Sara stopped by to visit today! I had missed her baby shower and wanted to give her her gift and a few things I thought she'd appreciate from Ollie's baby days. It was really good to see her. Normally I would have make cookies to share, but we had a cup of tea and visited for a few hours. I am a hostess at heart and I'm not sure how to handle having guest over whilst dieting. I'm sure it will become easier once I have more foods in my repertoire and can test my recipes to see how the food combos affect me. There are some Hungry Girl recipes that I am itching to try, THINK Jalapeno Poppers.
I am a huge Hungry Girl fan, I record her show and own her book of recipes. If you haven't heard of Lisa Lillien, you need to check her out (she has a blog and a web page one of the cooking channel websites). She does things like revamping recipes for fast food favorites, heavy holiday dishes, and tasty beverages and dessrts so they can be eaten without guilt. I made her onion rings and fell in love, it was a huge serving with plenty of fiber and very little of the yucky stuff. I encourage everyone I know to pick up the book and try her recipes! She may even inspire recipes of your own (like my banana 'icecream' whoopie pies, made with frozen blended banana 'icecream' and a 100 calorie Muffin Top)
Thinking back on today, I was a little disappointed that I showed a gain this morning. I'm fairly certain it was the Kix but it could have been a digestive issue. I will retest them at a later date...Until then? I'm sticking to toasted rice and flax granola. :)
Good tidings all!

I decided to go ahead and test cheese today because I've been craving it for days! I believe it is important to listen to our bodies. Today my body said cheese, so I did it right. There will be no cheetos, doritos or cheese nips...just straightforward cheese sticks. That said...Oh my! CHEESE! So excited! It was amazing :)

I started working out again today...Hula-hooping left bruising as it usually does the first time around. I feel so much better after a good workout!

La-la-Lizze on The Plan!

More like Lizze OFF The Plan!

I'm finally done with my horrible cold or flu... Whatever it was that was keeping me down. I had a really hard time eating on The Plan while I was sick because I was too exhausted to prepare my own meals or post on my blog. I apologize to those out there who read it daily.

When I was 2 down to cook, Adam cooked. Adam cooking usually means eggs and toast, fast food, frozen pizza or other convenience food. Between his food choices and my 5 days of womanly angst paired with being sick... I did put back on 2lbs. But, hey, I know that The Plan works, so I am not afraid of those 2lbs!

I started this morning with flax granola, blueberries, coconut milk and detox tea. Lunch was a salad with zucchini carrots cucumber goat cheese dressed withyou blueberry balsamic vinaigrette and a bowl of carrot ginger soup. I am planning on doing it a plan friendly dinner.

Tomorrow I will Make a plan based on my weight. If I am back down to where I was when I was testing, I will continue from where I left off. If I my Wat is still up or has increased somehow, I will do the 3 day cleanse before I start testing again.

See you tomorrow!

DAILY RECAP

I have a bad feeling. I'm pretty sure I'm reactive to wheat. While I was eating my bread I had a difficult time swallowing. Its a bit hard to explain, but it felt like I had strep. I sure hope not. I love lots of wheat based foods. I suppose it could be the raisin and wheat combination. The salad with lunch was awesome by the way.

I had a wonderful day with my boys! I just love the weekends. I find that I'm actually getting sleepy at the right times now....but PMS is on the way. We'll see how that goes!

DINNER

DESSERT
Red wine spritzer (Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Noir) with 1 oz of chocolate (Hershey's Special Dark).

DAILY RECAP
I'm not sure if potato chips are worth the calories without salt! I think I'll make my own by rubbing garlic paste on potato slices, misting them with EVOO and baking them. Now that sounds tasty. I guess I'll finish the bag and next time around I'll make my own. I'm really not sure I can only eat 1oz of potato chip...I really want to eat the whole bag...the texture...oh, the crispidy crunchiness!

Lemon Garlic Sauce? Well it's made with roasted garlic and it's more like a paste....but it is dang tasty! I still miss the taste of salt. I did find Maine Coast Seasoning on Amazon and they're more than I'm prepared to spend this week...Soon though!

I have been making my wine into a spritzer with flat, no calorie, flavored water. Since I'm not crazy about red wine, it makes it more enjoyable for me.

I'm still sleeping great and feeling great. Adam brought home McDonald's after work. I can't believe how disgusting it smelled to me. I was bracing myself for intense cravings that never happened. SWEET!

On a different note, I've really been missing my friend and family from Ecuador. I spent a year in Portoviejo, my senior year of high school. It was an absolutely amazing experience that left me a much better person. I miss everything; people, food, places! Most of all I miss my Manimals, the group of incredible friends I got to experience everything with. I pray that I will get to see them soon!

DESSERT
5oz of red wine (Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Noir) with 1 oz of chocolate (Hershey's Special Dark)

DAILY RECAP

Today was an interesting day. I am pleased that I passed the goat cheese test! I was nervous that I wouldn't. Cheese is a great pleasure in my life, I hope I have good result with cow cheese as well. Cow Cheese? That sounds ridiculous!
I had steady energy all day, not the manic ADHD energy I usually have. At 'nap time' I just put on the Brainwave Tuner app on my phone and meditated on my goals.
I spent a lot of time going back and tweaking my old entries, fixing mistakes and updating images. Around snack time I realized that I didn't have the apricot jam or zucchini I needed to prepare chicken. I made a list and got Ollie ready to head out the door (this always takes so much more time than anticipated).
Shopping took forever! I had to get my list and the big boys list. I was having a very hard focusing because Ollie was bored and demanding entertainment. I was goofing off with my chunk-a-monk, not paying attention to where I was in the store. I had to back-track so many times! I'm not sure why, but my body does not like grocery shopping. Perhaps the stress produces cortisol? I am always swollen and bloatey after household shopping.
When we got home, I spent an hour putting groceries away. By the time I had dinner on my plate I was two hours away from bed time! *Adam asked to have a bite of my dinner today. That means that it looked and smelled awesome. :)
If my weight has stabilized or gone up tomorrow, I'll have a difficult time deciding the cause. Am I reactive to Rye or did the combination of Grocery Bloat and eating & drinking too late in the evening cause my gain? I guess we'll see tomorrow!

I slept last night! I was still up too late but I got 7hrs of sleep! That is such an improvement. I feel so good. This may be a day with no nap. I knew "The Plan" was supposed to help with insomnia, but I had my doubts. No more doubts. Eureka! I just realized I haven't had my usual even brain pain, I've been headache free for day. Wowzers. Oh, and another pound down!

Breakfast was the usual flax granola, blueberries and coconut milk with a side of tea. I did have the option to swap blueberries for 1/2 an apple or pear. I love blueberries too much to say goodbye to them. Again, I made my way through breakfast slowly and really enjoyed the experience.

Ollie hasn't been crazy about me spending so much time with my focus on me instead of him. Today he went and got my blanket and followed me around because he wanted cuddles. I really only had five minutes until Lunch was ready and he does this:

After I gave in to the little evil angel we had lunch together. Today I tested 1oz goat cheese on my bed of green with pumpkin seeds accompanied by 1 cup of last night roasted veggies.Yummy! I had no idea that I would like goat cheese, but I do! I ate everything on my plate for the first time (excluding breakfast).

I passed the chickpea test, so I got to have homemade hummus (minus tahini) today! Officially the first snack that feels like a real snack to me. I was heavy handed when I spiced my hummus, so happy I did.

I adore "The Plan" Mango Cucumber Salsa! I had it on a bed of mixed greens with carrots and avocado. Sidled up to my tasty salad was a wellspiced bake chicken breast and steamed broccoli drizzled with orange infused olive oil and sprinkle with chili flakes. This meal was so satisfying, even Ollie dug each dish.

Mmmm! Chocolate, 1oz of hershey's special dark and a glass of red wine. I am a white wine girl but I thought I'd give red a chance. I am sipping Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Noir as a type. I like, not as delectable as Risata's Moscoto, but hey...I found a red!

I can't believe the changes I've experienced in less than a week. I've lost 4.4lbs and several inches. My energy is up and so is my sleep. My skin is clearer and my headaches are gone. Food tastes better everyday. I no longer suffer from seesawing bowel movements. I have only really had one mood swing and I should be amid crazy intense PMS right now. Usually PMS includes bloating, body aches and irrational emotional swings for me. Last night, I had one moment where my mood dipped but it lasted for less than 20minutes and I recognized what was happening. I was just upset because the whole house was spotless and my boys came in from work and the house exploded around them into disarray.

I am nicely relaxed...time to go chill with my Ollie and read a story. :)

DAILY RECAP
My sleep is slowly improving! Oh, I deviated from The Plan yesterday and I was very nervous that I would gain weight back....but I still lost weight! Thank you smart choices, lemon water and detox tea! I am so relieved. Still, I'm redoing yesterday.

I have started taking more time eating my breakfast...maybe an hour today. That hour does not include the 30min+ I spent on the my daily lemon water and tea. I like savoring my breakfast. :)

I was supposed to leave after breakfast, but while I was journaling with the Momzoe I decided to stay for Lunch. We had tea and left to get some groceries in Aurora. I tried to get all that I needed for lunch and dinner, plus a few great deals! Goat cheese, 3.5oz for $0.99, Fresh Steamable Broccoli for $0.99? Crazy! I clean 'em out! We drove home and I went straight to making lunch.

I subbed mixed greens for baby romaine and topped it with lemon juice, avocado, carrots and pumpkin seeds. I found my Spicy Vegetarian Soup as well.

I definitely need to spice up the remaining soup! Right now it tastes exactly like the carrot ginger soup. Not a fan, though Ollie loved the chickpeas. My salad was tasty!

I left after dinner, but it was hard. It is always so difficult to leave my mom, even if I'll see her a few days later. Ollie was asleep after just a few minutes in the car and I tried my best not to follow suit. I was so tired! I sang to keep myself awake but I barely made it to Lincoln.

Of course, as soon as we were home I was wide awake and so was Ols. I unpacked up and started Dinner. While I prepped dinner, Ollie had been really grumpy. He kept being naughty and getting into things. Eventually I think he gave up and got climbed into the sleepy rocker with my blankie.

Wow! Dinner tonight was the most satisfying meal I've had on the plan. The Italian Roasted Veggies were so tasty, the chicken was so flavorful and moist...and the salad with mango cucumber salad? Perfect! Nomnomnom!

The rest of the day was a blur of cleaning, unpacking our suitcase and getting ready for bed.

Til tomorrow!

La-la-Lizze on The Plan!

16oz of water with lemon, Twining English Breakfast Tea and Traditional Medicinal Everyday Detox Tea

Flax Granola, Blueberries & Coconut Milk.

LUNCH
1c. of brown rice with a huge mass of collard green and a bit of butter and handful of almonds.

DINNER
Carlos O'Kellys chicken fajita plate with double veggies and avocado, no tortillas, rice or beans.

DAILY RECAP
I woke up to a friend popping in the patio door, shouting my moms name. Not a pleasant way to wake up. Ollie went down rather easy last night and woke up happy as can be today. I can tell that we will need a small nap in a hour or two.
I've noticed a positive change. Yes, my weight stabilized today, but I expected that since I ate my dinner and had my last cup of tea much later than usual. To be cautious, I will be retesting almonds down the line. The change I'm talking about? I've been getting dressed right away in the morning. Usually I'm a pjay almost all day girl...but I have to strip down for my daily weigh-in, so I go ahead and get dressed!
Mmm. I like this detox tea, it tastes a bit like black licorice smells. I DESPISE black licorice, but I find the tea comforting and tasty. Other than the tea, this morning is like any other. 160z of water with lemon, flax granola, blueberries, coconut milk and my daily probiotic.

I spend the morning meditating, bumming around with Ollie and then having tea with mom and our friends when they got back from running errands. After our Dave & Cici left, mom and I sat down to journal together while Ollie practiced putting money in his piggy bank. My thoughts were everywhere, so I left the page to prepare Lunch.

I was supposed to have baby romaine with 1/4 avocado, carrots and pumpkin seeds with Spicy Vegetarian Soup and 1/2c chickpeas. That didn't happen. My salad was disgusting from travel/being in the fridge for a few day...salad is always better freshly prepped. My soup was nowhere to be found. I had to improvise...so I did what I could.

I ended up eating 1c. of brown rice with a huge mass of collard green and a bit of butter and handful of almonds. So flipping delicious! I could eat that a couple times a week. We'll see if there is any damage on the scale tomorrow.

Right after Lunch, momzoe happily informs me that our friend Boss (Dave) would like to take us out to dinner so he can visit with me and Ollie. I panic! I am not supposed to eat out on the plan. BUT I didn't pack dinner because I planned on preparing it fresh for the family. I can do this. I will have my snack as planned and then be very careful at Dinner.

Carlos O'Kellys...oh man, I dreaded those chips and salsa from the minute we decided to go there. I really shouldn't have. I was perfectly fine, only feeling a little pang of jealousy as I watched two baskets disappear into the hungry mouths of Momzoe, Boss and Ollie. I sipped my lemon water with no ice while they munched. Side note*my thyroid is under-active so I drink all my beverages room temp or warmer to promote my thyroid function. I ended up ordering the chicken fajita plate with double veggies and avocado, requesting that no salt be added during the cooking process.

It was good, but not well spiced. I can tell they really depend on salt to make their food tasty. I've grown used to tons of spice and being able to taste the real notes of the food. I still enjoyed dinner because I was having fun with people I love.

Dave dropped mom and I off at our good friend Robby's house. Robby lives across the street from our house and invited us into his home when we were working on our house and is still letting us use his kitchen and bathroom whenever we want since ours don't work yet. We watched some A League of Our Own and I made mom and I had 1.5cups of detox tea to help our bodies process all the sodium from dinner. We each had headaches within an hour of dinner. I'm guessing it was from the MSG. After TV time we went home and settled in, talking for hours.

I'm nervous that my weight will be up tomorrow. At least I will know the exact cause. I am redoing this days menu tomorrow. I am proud of myself, I stuck with the diet as best I could. I may have deviated from the menu, but I did it all foods that have proven friendly for my body. In the past, a slip-up like forgetting to pack a meal would have sent me into a weird binging phase. "I already messed up, might as well eat the cheesiest, crunchiest and naughtiest thing on the menu...psht...why not binge on chips while I wait? Heck, where is my Mug'o'rita?"

Going to be feeling positive'ish.
Night world!

La-la-Lizze on The Plan!

Day 3 Weight: 153.2
Heaviest Weight: 166.6
The Plan Start Weight: 156.6

Mood: Energetic but a foggy

Menu: Lyn-Genet Recitas' The Plan, Day 2

PRE-BREAKFAST
16oz of water with lemon, Twining English Breakfast Tea

BREAKFAST
Flax Granola, Blueberries & Coconut Milk.

LUNCH
Mixed greens with 1/2 diced apple and 1/4 avocado and broccoli with orange oil

SNACK
1/2 pear with 8 almonds

DINNER
Leftover kale, veggies and pumpkin seeds with beet & carrot salad with sunflower seeds.

DAILY RECAP
In reality, this is my third day on The Plan. I woke up groggy. I ended up staying up very late last night getting ready to go to my Momzoe's for the weekend. I usually spend a week home with Adam in Lincoln and then the alternating week home with my mom an hour away in Marquette. I drove up yesterday for her birthday even though I couldn't have a celebratory drink or go out for dinner and dessert like we usually do. I had to prepack all my meals and it was a little taxing. I don't like eating out of tupperware. :(

I've grown used to my flax granola, blueberries and coconut milk. I like it, Flax Granola For Life! Again, I feel great after breakfast. I got more sleep than usual last night. It still wasn't nearly enough, but I didn't need my usual nap. That's probably good because my Momzoe is so active that napping makes me feel guilty unless its a group activity.

Lunch was very unattractive after an hour trip in tupperware from Lincoln. I managed to eat over 1/2c of Carrot Ginger Soup with chia seeds today! My mixed greens with 1/2 diced apple and 1/4 avocado got a little mushed, but the broccoli with orange oil was still tasty!

Dinner was leftover kale, veggies and pumpkin seeds with beet & carrot salad with sunflower seeds. I was supposed to eat one cup of brown rice but I completely forgot. After smelling fast food...dinner was so BLAND. The beet and carrot salad had started to get sour (which is normal but unappetizing to me).

I ate much later and had water much later than usual. I'm afraid my weight might be up tomorrow.

Well, I'm signing off for the night!

Medium Fuji apple

DAILY RECAP
I still lost 2lb even though I deviated from the plan and ate a steak. TERRIFIC! I can't imagine how much I could have lost if I hadn't gobbled that steak. Though I did lose weight, I am still repeating the first day. I want to give myself the best chance possible. I forget to go out and get my detox tea again, but I am taking my probiotic daily and drinking all the water.

I enjoyed breakfast yesterday, but today, I made a few changes that made a huge difference. I did not combine the components of breakfast. I ate the flax granola with cranberries dry, taking sips of coconut milk and nibbling at blueberries. It was a great taste and texture experience. Ollie tried my cereal and liked it so he has a little mixed in with his.

We read a few books, played with his number blocks...and then woke daddy up around 1pm so mommy could take a nap. Usually I need a solid 1-2 hours to make up for the 3-5 hours I missed out on overnight. BUT I only slept for 20mins and woke up alert and ready for coffee! Wait, scratch that...ready for English Breakfast Tea! I hung out with my guys Adam, Ollie, the roommate Jon and the dog Booga before the big boys ran off to work.
Yesterday I felt that Lunch was bland..so today I went CRAZY with the spices. So much better! Ollie wasn't interested in sharing today, so I made heated up some chicken and rice soup from the deep freeze. We had our lunch together picnic style on the floor.

After Lunch, we watched Little Einsteins as I rocked him to sleep. As soon as he was out, I moved him to bed and went to work. I always clean like mad as soon as he take that first nap. Three boys, a dog and a cat make a big mess daily. When I was done, I got online to research the right online college. I want to finish my Bachelors in Health and Wellness..so I can start the Masters of Montessori Education at Loyola. Ollie will start Montessori next year and I hope to return to my assistant teacher role. when I return, I want to be working towards being a head teacher rather than the Bilingual Directors Assistant. I have a lot of work ahead of me!

Dinner was just as good reheated as it was fresh. I anticipated the hunger I would feel so I ate more roughage today.

After Dinner, Ollie and I took a bath and got in our pjams. We read a story or too and played 'chase me' in the house, complete with zombie growls. After playtime we picked up our mess and I did dishes while Ollie practiced his alphabet with his Leapfrog fridge magnet set. We settled down for the night. Now, we're listening to music while I blog and he plays with Mega Bloks.

I am vowing not to have any hiccups tonight. I'm on my last cup of tea and then I'm cut off from liquid until tomorrow.

See you tomorrow!

16oz of water with lemon, Twining English Breakfast Tea, no Liver Detox Tea to be found in mah house!

Sauteed Kale with Veggies and Spicy Coco Sauce with a side of Beet & Carrot Salad with pumpkin seeds. Spicy Coco Sauce is AMAZE-BALLZ!

DAILY RECAP
I woke up after another night of struggling to fall asleep for 4-5hrs. I was woken by a hungry baby. After a brief nursing session, Ollie whined and grumped at me while I took care of morning necessities including weighing myself as required by The Plan. I discovered that my Liver Detox Tea never made it home from the grocery strore. I crossed my fingers and prepared English Breakfast Tea with lemon and honey instead. While my tea brewed, I slugged down the morning 160z of lemon water.

I put my breakfast together, Flax Granola, Blueberries & Coconut Milk. And then Ollies, Cheerios, Blueberries & Almond Milk. He prefers almond milk over cows milk. I've got one cool kid! Breakfast was enjoyable, the combination of textures was really appealing and satisfying. However, tomorrow I will NOT pour my coconut milk over my granola, as the last few bites got slimy. I will also eat my blueberries separately. Ollie tried my granola and wasn't really excited about it. This is actually nice, he won't be begging me for bites! After breakfast, I felt full and satisfied. I ended up falling asleep in our rocking chair with Ollie watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.....the nap was awesome!

Lunch was a little bland, I blame that on my light spicing hand. What did I eat? Sauteed Broccoli, mixed greens with pumpkin seeds, 1/2 a pear and carrot ginger soup with sunflower seeds. The Carrot Ginger Soup is sweet, I'm not used to sweet soup. I only ate about a half cup. Tomorrow, I will definitely make use of the 20+ approved spices! I am full, not really experiencing any toxic hunger symptoms or cravings. The highlight of lunch...the pear &pumpkin seeds. :)

Snack timing was perfect. Right between Lunch and Dinner, I though I would die I was so hungry! I wanted to eat my sons almonds and fruit sooooooo badly. Once I had a cup of peppermint tea and a medium Fuji apple, I felt so much better. It held me over until dinner and I didn't count the minutes once!

Ahh, dinner. Sauteed Kale with Veggies and Spicy Coco Sauce, as wells as Beet & Carrot Salad with pumpkin seeds. Spicy Coco Sauce is AMAZING! I could drink it! I am so hopeful that I am not reactive in the shrimp test down the road...because Shrimp with Spicy Coco Sauce sounds incredible. I love the Beet and Carrot salad with pumpkin seeds, it sweet and the texture is so crunchy! I felt so great after dinner!

I had my last glass of water, followed by a cup of tea about an hour after dinner. I had been pleasantly surprised when I noted that I was actually sleepy since it rarely, if ever happen at night. THEN my first toxic hunger symptom showed up, a massive headache. No chance was I falling asleep. I warmed up my body and did some light yoga to relax my brain. Then the fiance showed up from work (he works 3rd shift) and threw steaks on the grill for his dinner. It smelled so amazing and looked so delicious. I knew if I ate a steak the headache would go away. I resisted for an hour, but finally gave in. The headache disappeared. Now, I get to do the first day all over. Usually a slip up like that would have sent me into a shame spiral that twisted into a guilt-binge. Not this time. My body said it needed steak. Tomorrow, I will know better.

Goodnight!

January 29, 2013

I've been chopping, shredding, mincing and mixing for hours. My son is not happy about this. He wants to read and play with me. I felt guilty, so I sat down and gave him a bowl. We made a snack together and read a book. Now I'm fully prepped for the next few days. I am very glad that I gave myself another day to prepare. It would have been incredibly stressful to take care of this while trying to eat the right things. I think taking the probiotic and drinking the water for another day will only benefit my end results. Just those two changes have made a big difference in the way I feel. I've always been good about drinking the recommended 64oz a day, but the extra 13.8oz has made me feel better. It really does make sense that a 128lb woman wouldn't have the same water demands as a 165.6lb person!

The most interesting thing I made today? Flax Granola. I used Red Mill Whole Flaxseeds, it was the best price per ounce at Hy-Vee and I've always been happy with Red Mill products. It was simple, but time consuming. Soak whole flax seeds in water (spiced with all sorts of warm, sweet spices, think cinnamon & cloves) for around 8hrs and it looks like this:

After the Flax has soaked, you thinly spread it onto a cookie sheet and bake it for 50 minutes at 150*, flipping and turning it so that all bits are baked dry. I went ahead and made the whole package, which is why it took me forever to cook! The recipe in the book allows for dried cranberries or raisins, so I added dried cranberries for sweetness and textural contrast. In the end, it looked like this:

It is far more appealing in person, crunchy in texture and very fragrant. If you're used to sugared/salted cereals, the flavor will probably seem bland at first. One of the goals in The Plan is to sensitize your taste buds to natural flavors. I know that so much of what I eat is flavor enhanced with sugar or salt. I've gotten used to amping up food with salt that I've forgotten how delicious things used to taste!

My first 7 years were spent in my Momzoe's house; where snacks were things like cheese, hummus, fruits, steamed veggies with a small amount of butter...delicious! The next 7 years were spent living with my Pops. Not too long ago. we had a frank and humorous discussion about the food we ate during that time. So much of it was McDonalds, chain Chinese, frozen Hungry Man Dinners, Egg-in-a-hole, pizza. I don't really ever remember having breakfast or many fruits or veggies in the house. At age 14, I 5' tall & 150 lbs! You know what? That has affected me negatively but I WAS lucky. I had a dad who kept me fed, clothed, housed and he loves me. We were not the model Daddy/Daughter Duo but get along amazingly well these days.

I have been fighting that 14y/o girl who has a taste for foods devoid of merit since I moved back in with my mom at 14. I was down to 110 lbs until my senior year in highschool. I left for my exchange year in Ecuador. The food was amazing and so was the experience. So amazing, that I gained 25lbs. I was still happy then. After I started college my food choices came in waves, HEALTHY for weeks and then SUPER UNHEALTHY for weeks. I found that I gain weight around my guy, Adam. I ballooned up to 166 at one point during our relationship. I was actually 163 lbs the day we found out I was pregnant. I had severe morning sickness and lost 30lbs while pregnant...then slowly gained it back, weighing 163 when I went into labor.
After my son was born I worked out and ate balanced meals so I could provide Ollie with optimal nutrition. I was down to 147 until I had Mirena placed. Then I gained back all the weight plus 3lbs...evening though I was eating and exercising the same way. My doctor told me flat out, that I probably wouldn't loose more than 10lbs until I stopped breastfeeding because of the overabundance of estrogen in my system. I wasn't about to sacrifice my sons health so I could be more aesthetically pleasing. I cut my workouts in half and started eating whatever I wanted. I stayed at the same weight. The weight I was at when I saw Lyn-Genet Recitas and her Plan. The idea of reactive foods and the way they can affect each person differently resonated with me. Maybe, just maybe The Plan can help balance my hormones and get rid of my laundry list of related symptoms!
I'll check in tomorrow. Tonight I'm drinking my last Diet Dr. Pepper and eating my last jalapeno popper for a long time!

Grocery Shopping Insanity

Grocery Shopping was not a pleasant experience for a 1,2,3!
1. Ollie didn't want to be in the store, let alone for 1hr+
2. Hy-vee, I am so angry with Hy-Vee. I know at one point they advertised Ad-Matching. I would have gone to Walmart and Trader Joes. They have better customer service and better prices. And they would never make me feel like such an awkward idiot holding my ads, overwhelmed with an angry baby. I should know better, except for 3 A+ employees who work overnights, my local Hyvee is filled with borderline rude "Unhelpful Smiles". It ended up costing me $65+ more than I planned on spending.
3. There was a snow storm that coated everything while I was in the very oddly organized Hyvee. I wasn't offered drive up service (with a 18month baby and a huge cart full of groceries)...so I had to push through all the snow to the car I parked way too far away for the extra bit of exercise.

A bright spot, Walgreens. I had purchased a probiotic supplement and a bottle of wine there yesterday. When I got home I opened the probiotic bottle and the seal was broken. They replaced it, no questions asked. the manager offered to get the replacement for me so i wouldn't have to go to the back of the store for it. Great customer service!

Oh, and the bottle of Red Velvet from Cupcake vineyards? Not bad, just not for me. Next on the list, Pinot Noir from Cupcake Vineyards.

I've decided to take my probiotic today and play with my baby. My water is down the hatch for today. I'll cook tomorrow and start Wednesday. I don't want to doom myself because I'm ill-prepared!

The Plan, Lyn-Genet Recitas

I've read it! I'm guessing the print version of the book is much more enjoyable than the ebook. The Plan is littered with testimonials from success stories, people who've lost weight and stopped or lessened the effects of disease and physical disrepair. Normally I read the practical information in a book first and then go back later to inspire myself with success stories...NOT possible with the ebook. The testimony was an irritating interruption from beginning to end.
I do feel prepared with informational to start The Plan. You start with a three day cleanse wherein you eat about 2000 calories of the least reactive foods to help the body repair and balance itself. NO added salt, no artificial sweeteners, no carbonation. Including the 3 day cleanse, The Plan outlines 20 days total. Each day you weigh yourself upon waking and record it, drink 16oz of water with lemon, drink dandelion tea or take a liver detoxifier and then enjoy the outlined meal plan. After the cleanse you begin to incorporate more reactive foods: some days you choose your own, others days they are chosen for you. Each new food day is followed by a rest day in case you are reactive to the new food. Some signs of reactions are weight gain or stabilization, headaches, and bloating. At the end of the 20 days, The Plan has helped you to discover foods that will consistently help you lose or maintain weight and feel great! From there you can continue to incorporate foods, testing them on your own. In the end, this isn't a diet. The Plan is a way to figure how to eat and eat what you love for the rest of your life.

Gripes
***No shopping lists even though they suggest you cook ahead, I am going to have to write down ever and tally ingredients
before I go shopping. That may not sound like a big deal, but it will be at least two hours.
***The links in the ebook aren't always accurate.
***I have a feeling the plan is going to be rather expensive based on the recipes and suggested supplements. I will keep
my receipts and post a total cost in the end.
***A lot of the food will be prepared for me and my son, my fiance will not touch things like Carrot Ginger Soup (so
I'll have took separately for him or say he is on his own).
***No salt added? I love salt, plain on my hand even. I will miss salt SOOOOO much
***Red Wine is encouraged daily after day four. I'm a Moscato girl and I have no idea what Red I would like.

I'm going to go ahead and write down all the food I need to buy including 16 spices I don't keep in my cupboard tonight so I can shop tomorrow. I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a good 120 dollars just to get through the first 3 days, after that I'll have a lot of the basics so the next bill won't be so bad. Also, I'll buy a bottle of red tonight to see if maybe I can find one I like. I've heard great things about Cupcake Vineyards Red Velvet. :)

In disrepair, but hopeful!

Oh, Dr. Oz! You've done it again. I've reevaluated my physical and mental health and found them both in disrepair

Evidence of Disrepair
***Daily headaches in the evening
***Toxic hunger for several hours, about every other day
***Moody, happy most of the time and then inexplicably despondent
***My ADHD is flaring madly
***I can barely stay awake with my son Ollie (18 months) when he wakes up between 8am and 9am
***Insomnia rears its ugly head in the evenings, keeping me awake until 5am-6am some days
***When I exercise (3-6x/week), my body bloats and becomes inflamed
***My skin is irritated and dry
***My body refuses to lose more than ten pounds when I have 45 more to go
***I'm cold unless I'm being very active (even in a 71* house)
***I don't feel sexy, I usually feel sexy even when I'm a chunk!

What was it Dr. Oz featured on his show that made me take such a critical look at my health? It was the tried and trued testimony of Lyn-Genet Recitas. She was sharing her outlook on nutrition, which can be found detailed in her book The Plan. The basic concept is that our bodies are each unique and can react differently to food. Reactions to food can be extreme or they can be less noticeable, causing bloating, weight gain, headaches and more. One of the big problems that Lyn-Genet outlined, is the fact that many foods touted as Health or Super Foods are highly reactive. For example, I eat black beans, raw broccoli and shrimp for the health benefits and the taste. I thought those foods should help me lose weight as part of a reduced calorie diet and regular exercise. Lyn-Gent says "No!" Those food are highly reactive and many people experience inflammation, weight gain and other symptoms by ingesting them. I could be one of those people. The Plan is targeted at women over 35, tough it is suitable for men and younger people with chronic issues. I am only 25, but I still think I can benefit from this. I am young and vibrant, I should not be experiencing so many health issues. I've written an email to Lyn-Genet's assistant Maggie, wondering if I could benefit from experiencing The Plan. It has been a week and I haven't heard anything back. It puts a sour taste in my mouth, I suppose...though, I have decided to go ahead and purchase the ebook. I'm reading it as soon as I post this! I want to be sure it won't affect my breastfeeding relationship with Ollie (one of the main reasons I've discounted diet, after diet). See you as soon as I finish the book!

Until then, I'm following Lyn-Genet's suggestion of drinking half my body weight in ounces of water daily(156.6/2 =78.3,so 78oz), last drink 3-4hrs before bedtime.
